Springfield Aviation History Update
pictures and stories of Springfield, Illinois aviation history
This site welcomes your pictures of airplanes, aviation enthusiasts, air crews,
pilots, airline employees, FBO employees and businesses serving or served by the aviation
community of this fair city. I will post pictures and information I received too late for
my book Springfield Aviation from Arcadia Publishing. I hope you
will direct your contribution -- pictures at jpgs at least 4 x 6 and 200 dpi resolution;
text as Word or RTF files -- to me, Job Conger: jobconger@eosinc.com
The most significant event to take place at Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport
(originally Capital Airport) since it was dedicated in 1947 was the departure of the last
aircraft flown by the 183rd Fighter Wing, a unit which has flown fighters since it arrived
in 1948. To see pictures of the "final departure," visit the page of photos and
my take on the event by clicking here
More updates will be posted as time, photo/story contributions and financial support
permit.

If you find a typo or inaccurate information in my book, do us all a favor and tell me
about it. Set the record straight. I will share your thoughts here.
page 87 top picture -- A friend explained the F-84 DID have air-to-air
refuelling capability. I knew this when I wrote the book, so all I can say is that my
brain must have been "elsewhere" when I wrote the caption.
